UN Women is the United Nations organization focused on advancing women’s rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of all women and girls worldwide. Established in 2010 by the UN General Assembly, it unifies several previous UN bodies to create a stronger, more coordinated global force for gender equality.

The organization works across more than 80 countries, delivering programs and policies that address key areas such as women’s leadership, economic empowerment, ending violence against women, peace and security, and humanitarian action. It also supports governments in developing global standards and helps countries implement them through technical and financial assistance.

UN Women plays a central role in coordinating the UN system’s work on gender equality and monitoring progress worldwide. It also partners with civil society, women’s movements, and the private sector to drive lasting change.
